Within the DeMANS project, Natascha Schaefer and Carmen Villmann (UKW) did a one-month secondment in Wollongong discovering the bioprinting infrastructure at UoW, Australian Institute for Innovative Materials and Intelligent Polymer research Institute.
Following a training on the printers at TRICEP, Natascha and Carmen used microfiber material, they brought from Germany, and used the 3D REDI to print microfibers together with hydrogel. The distribution of the microfibers was further analyzed and discussed with the material experts from Wollongong.
Natascha and Carmen gave expert seminars at the host institution. Natascha presented her latest work at UKW on microfiber manufacturing and their use in cellular models. Carmen concentrated on the setup of a glioblastoma model in the context of ultraweak hydrogels. The team at UoW, UoW collaboration partners, and students intensively discussed with the UKW researchers their recent findings.
Natascha and Carmen were impressed by the tremendous options of bioprinting, the openness and engagement of Gordon Wallace, David Officer, and Xiao Liu, the fruitful and constructive discussions and comments to further intensify the collaboration between UoW and UKW within DeMANS and beyond.
